Resolve Surrogacy Questionnaire

ResolveResolve has developed a questionnaire, “Surrogacy Questions to Ask” , for the Intended Parents researching how to build their family with the help of a Surrogate Mother. We found the list to be an excellent resource and decided to answer them for our readers as well. Do remember that these answers are based on our specific Gestational Surrogacy Program.

Check out our responses to these questions here and please feel free to ask us anything else that you are curious about. You can reach us at [email protected].

I Made a New Friend Today

I made a new friend today. Well, I guess we have been “friends” for a long while, but considering she is a little less than 2 years old now, she doesn’t remember when we first met.

She walked into Starbucks and we immediately made eye contact. She moved behind her mom’s skirt and looked up at her parents wondering why tears had filled their eyes. Why was this woman making my mom cry? I was sure that was one of many questions she had running through her mind. Her Dad said to me, “Give her 5 minutes and she will be your friend.” I am pleased to say that it was less than 5 minutes and she was in my lap giving me kisses and speaking to me in a language that I suspect only other toddlers know. But, this time with her brought me so much joy.

Her parents and I spoke about the journey that brought her in to this world with the help of their wonderful Surrogate Mother, Amber. It seemed like it was only yesterday that they were waiting for her arrival. After our nice visit, we went to see Dr. Cassidenti about bringing a brother or sister into this little girl’s life. And with the help of their new Surrogate Mother, Jennifer, who is an absolute gem, we hope to have good news for this little family in the coming weeks. Keep your fingers crossed!

BREAKING NEWS: Autism Clinical Trial

Last week CBR announced a phase II clinical trial for autism. Diagnoses of autism in the U.S. have risen to 1 in every 88 children, making research like this particularly important. CBR has partnered with Dr. Michael Chez, Director of Pediatric Neurology at the Sutter Neuroscience Institute in Sacramento, Calif., to establish this efficacy study, which will evaluate the use of children’s own stored cord blood stem cells as a potential therapy for autism.

In this blinded, placebo-controlled, FDA-regulated trial, researchers will investigate if cord blood improves language and behavior in children previously diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. The study will enroll 30 children who have their cord blood processed and stored with CBR – allowing the researchers to control for consistent quality.

The new study is one of several FDA-regulated clinical trials CBR has established with researchers focused on advancing newborn stem cell science and expanding the uses for cord blood stem cells. CBR helps fund research and establishes trials so that families will have more medical options in the future.

Your commitment to educating all of your patients on their options and the importance of newborn stem cell banking is the first step in helping families prepare for a healthy future. For your patients who are interested in learning more about newborn stem cell banking, please direct them to call 1-888-CORD BLOOD or cordblood.com

You can read more about the autism trial here If you are interested in learning more about clinical trials exclusive to CBR clients or have patients who may meet the criteria for participation, click here.

Below is a sampling of some of the early press coverage the new trial has received since the initial announcement. We encourage you to take a look as your patients may have seen it as well.

Neil Patrick Harris Opens Up About Surrogacy to Oprah

Actor Neil Patrick Harris has opened up his home to Oprah Winfrey as part of a revealing new interview about fatherhood.

The “How I Met Your Mother” star and his partner, David Burtka, who are parents to 19-month-old twins Gideon and Harper, invited the media mogul to their sprawling estate for the TV chat.

The couple sits in the backyard talking about their decision to have children together, insisting they thought about long and hard before deciding on surrogacy.

The actor reveals, “We really had thought it through financially, emotionally, relationship-wise. We didn’t just accidentally get pregnant. These kids come into our world with nothing but love.”

The twins were then brought outside by their nanny to meet Winfrey, who gushed over the tots.

Burtka reveals, “They love to swim, they’re taking swim classes.”

Opening up about the surrogacy, Burtka says, “We knew the surrogate, we didn’t know the egg donor, but we saw a video of her and read extensive history on (her) medical (history),” before adding: “Two eggs, two embryos, one of mine, one of his – and two took.”

Harris declared, “We lucked out. They’re super healthy and happy.”

The full interview airs on Oprah’s “Next Chapter” on Sunday.
