September Bio of the Month

Tonya

This amazing mom of four, Tonya, is a Successful Surrogate and on her second journey with BFI. When she’s not working as a full-time dispatcher, you can find her soaking up time with her husband and children. She loves making people smile and exudes a genuine sense of self that allows people to be themselves as well. She is the pure example of tiny but mighty! Her goal in life is to raise confident, well-rounded children, and to leave her mark on the world via surrogacy. She loves being pregnant but loves the joy she brings her Intended Parents even more. At BFI, we’re unbelievably grateful and humbled to be a part of that magic with Tonya!

Welcome Monica!

The process for the gestational carrier to be cleared can seem overwhelming. From the application to the collection of blood, sweat, and tears (just a slight exaggeration ;). The process is multi-faceted and only a select few make it through. To that end, we would like to welcome our newest cleared gestational carrier, Monica, to the elite BFI club!!!!

Thank you, Monica, for your diligence and true desire to help someone less fortunate than you!!!!

Tonya’s Surrogacy Story

As a busy mom of 4, Tonya is a pro at juggling all of the activities and handling all tasks with efficiency. Delivering her wombmate was no different! At her 39 week appointment, it was clear that baby wasn’t going to stay put much longer. That same day, Saturday, September 25, 2021, after only 12 hours at the hospital, Tonya delivered a beautiful baby boy into the arms of his parents. Everyone was so thankful that Mom and Dad were able to be in the room to witness their baby being born. Tonya was especially grateful that Dad was able to cut the cord, even if he needed a little direction. 😉 All of that magic and Tonya was still home in time to watch Sunday Night Football with her family!

August Bio of the Month

Jeri

You’ve probably seen Jeri around our social media pages as this is her 4th surrogacy journey (first sibling journey) with BFI, but let us formally introduce you. As you can imagine, Jeri is empathetic and compassionate; a role model and a friend to all of Building Families’ surrogates. She is currently working on her nursing degree with a goal of working in…you guessed it! Labor and delivery! Her awesome husband, Terry, has held her hand through each of her journeys and is beyond supportive of all of her dreams. When she isn’t studying, you can find her at the baseball field with one or both of her handsome sons. She feels blessed to have two boys that keep her busy and entertained. After so many years together, we don’t know what we’ll do when she hangs up her surrogacy hat. But for now, we’re so thankful to be here with her again!

Throwback!

Throwback to the beginning of this amazing match! Surrogate, Jeri, was beyond excited to start building her couple’s family. She delivered their beautiful baby girl 2 years ago and is now 27 weeks along with her baby sister!

Embryo Transfer Day!

To you, this may not be significant but to us, this is one of the most significant moments in a Surrogate’s journey. What you’re looking at is the moment the embryo is transferred into the surrogate’s uterus. The little white form in the center of the screen is the embryo. Two weeks from this moment, we will learn if the pregnancy is successfully progressing. Fingers, and toes, crossed!!

Zoom with Our Friends

Laughing with our girls, and seeing our girls – even if over zoom – is all we need to get through the week! Randi has been hosting zoom happy hours for both IPs and GCs and the response is wonderful. We look forward to seeing you at the next one!

July Bio of the Month

How sweet it is to know Jessica! Part time cookie baker, full time mom to her 4 kids, Jessica is a 2 time surrogate with BFI. Her love for her children is what brought her to surrogacy. The joy she feels in raising them is something she feels compelled to share with those who otherwise might not experience it. As you can imagine, she stays busy with her children and their activities. Being present at their events and spending time with her family is her number one priority. She says she is happiest when she is watching her kids do what they love!

Jessica’s Surrogacy Story

Gestational Carrier, Jessica’s, delivery was one for the books!

On June 26, 2021, Jessica completed her couple’s family.  And she did it with the parents at her bedside!  This is something that has not happened in more than a year of births with Building Families. We were all hopeful this would happen, especially the parents, but with hospital limitations we have seen as recently as a month ago, we weren’t sure.  They were overjoyed to witness their little one enter the world! We say little, when in fact the baby girl weighed in at a whopping 9lb 9oz, making her BFI’s biggest naturally born surrobabe in all of our 30 years!!

Sharing that moment with the couple is what most surrogates look forward to when they picture the end of their journey.  We are so thankful to see this tiny bit of normalcy return. Everyone, including Jessica’s four children, are so in love and proud of what together they helped make a reality.

June is National PTSD Month!

June is National PTSD Awareness Month! Oftentimes, the first thing that comes to mind when you hear Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is the soldiers recognized by the @Till_Valhalla_Project (TVP). Those heroes absolutely deserve recognition, but as TVP stated in a recent post, “Almost everyone has been through something traumatic in their life…PTSD can occur in all people, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, nationality, or culture.” In our particular industry, it’s not uncommon to encounter Intended Parents with infertility-related PTSD. We’re here to tell you that your feelings are valid, you’re not alone, and there are people out there (like our very own Dr. Rad) who are trained and motivated to help you.
