Surrogate Candidates

BFI’s Surrogates took pleasure in giving the greatest gift of their life—a child who would be forever cherished and loved.

These special women received the full support of their partners and families. Some were working mothers, while others were stay-at-home moms. What they all had in common was their willingness, despite busy schedules, to make the effort and endure the inconveniences of a surrogacy arrangement while opening their hearts and homes to their Couple so they could experience the pregnancy together.

Surrogate applicants were required to meet basic age, health, and lifestyle requirements before becoming eligible to enter the screening process. The psychological screening process was rigorous. A criminal background check was conducted by an independent investigator, and extensive drug and alcohol testing was performed on all applicants. Carol recommended that the Surrogate and her husband/partner be interviewed in their home, as living conditions were also a consideration in the screening process.

Typically, only 50% of Surrogate applicants were ultimately cleared into the program. The screening process was highly selective to ensure that both Surrogate applicants and Intended Parents had the ability to adequately cope with the demands of a surrogacy arrangement.
